Danielle's Journals

Hey, where are my pics?

Perhaps you have noticed that I am falling behind on my photos for  Project
365
and you would be correct.  In light of things going on in Haiti as well as
other personal projects, I have felt lately that my attention needs to be focused
on bigger things than taking pictures.  Over the past few weeks Jake
and I have been working on several Haiti relief projects from
deciphering 911 messages and relaying them to local organizations on
the ground to helping friends plan and organize a Benefit Concert that will be

Day 18 - Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." -MLK

Whether you join a MLK Day Service Project, research the Civil Rights Movement, listen to the "I Have a Dream" speech, or participate in any number of celebrations around the country, today is definitely a day to do something.

Days 14-17

Some of you may notice that Days 14-17 are missing.  Sad, I know.

The past few days have been wonderful but a tad bit busy filled with new classes and my wonderful husband's birthday.  As I was stressing about not getting photos taken and posted I remembered that my first goal of this entire project was "Have Fun!" not "Add more stress to your life!"

So, while this goes against every perfectionist bone in my body (and maybe yours), we are both going to have to face the fact that Days 14-17 are MIA.

What I Want to Be When I Grow Up

For all of you wondering what the heck I want to be when I grow up (which, given my history, is a very valid question) here you have it!  Or, for everyone wondering if I've lost my left-hemisphere, here is your reassurance that it is still intact.

Day 13 - WMU's East Hall

Western Michigan University's East Campus has quickly become one of my favorite places to shoot.  It's old, often abandoned, and gives off a classic, ivy league look while at the same time emitting a creepy, ghost town vibe.

East Hall was one of the first buildings built (1903) and is uniquely located atop a hill so that from the steps of East Hall you can see all of modern WMU and downtown Kalamazoo.  It's a cool experience!

Day 12 - Teagan Tuesday

Today is Teagan Tuesday and it's a twofer!

Teagan in the Morning:
Teagan has a routine (much like a small child) in that every morning she comes in and crawls into bed with us...so, this is pretty much what I wake up to each morning.  This particular morning I grabbed my camera but just as I was clicking the shutter she woke up and gave me this "why are you taking pictures of me so early in the morning" look.  I think it turned out pretty cute.

Day 11 - Coming Soon!

Oooops...Danielle made a mistake we're experiencing technical difficulties.

You'll have to wait with baited breath for Day 11...

Day 10 - My Spoonful of Sugar

Today Jake and I started a running program called Couch to 5K which aims to get you off the couch, onto the roads, and running 5K (about 3mi) in 2 months.  While we're not exactly couch potatoes, we aren't in the shape we used to be either.

Some of you know that I absolutely abhor running - I've been there, done it, and still hate it!  Today's post is my attempt to give running another shot; I've decided that maybe if I can sneak some photography into this destestful sport, it might grow on me.

Day 09 - Rattle and Hum

There's hardly a moment in our household when music is not heard - it is part of our life and part of who we are.  Last year I was blessed with the opportunity to give Jake the Christmas present of his dreams...this guitar.  Ironically it was that same Christmas that he gave me the present of my dreams...this camera.

Day 08 - The Nose

Yeah, yeah, I know, its not Tuesday, but could you pass up a face like this? Don't you just love how her lip hangs down as far as her ear??  I do.
